something that has facinated me since i started reading and posting on this board was the whole "women must always wear pantyhose" idea... .
the thought sometimes crosses my mind as to whether or not there were any differences in the borg from country to country - but the only issue i have come across is the pantyhose one.
in south africa, to the best of my knowledge, while i was "in", this was not a requirement - we only wore stockings if the weather required it.
I think it must be that whole dress as to honor Jehovah thing the witnesses have going.
I think they believe bare legs are too casual. Here a lot of the women go bare legged in the summer, but only if the skirts fall at least mid calf. If a sister wears a skirt that is just below the knee, she'll wear pantyhose.
today me and my friend went to lunch, while we were waiting to pay a guy made some small talk with us.
well as i went to pay he swatted my card away and paid for both me and my friend.
he said something along the lines of, "you boys look like you work hard it's on me".
Now if the man would have been a JW, he would have offered you literature, because as every good JW knows, the "life saving message" contained in the publications is worth far, far more than any act of kindness!
so i wake with a bat in my bedroom,,,no idea how it got in,,,,got lights on, opened front door, dog in hand, pillow in the other,,bat, flew three times, from bedroom around thru living room to kitchen,,,then right out the door.
now i did ssome research online,,,,and it is a bad omen,,death,,,and the three times even more so of a more closer person to me.

Maybe a little. True, "beauty" is what attracts people initially, but it is the substance of the person that makes us fall in love or keeps our attraction going.
The sexiest man I ever met was only "average" by shallow standards. But he was smart, decent, and funny as hell. If he was talking to you, he paid intense attention and made you feel worthwhile. He was the first to lend a shoulder or an ear. He also had the ability to put everyone in stitches with the way he told stories.
Every woman I know wanted him, including me.
But alas, he was happily married to an amazing woman who was just a great as he was. It was awesome. They were awesome.
because i was a born-in and raised in the wt, i was always told that we don't need holidays to tell us to give gifts to our children.
we give them gifts all year around.. did your parents ever make good on that promise?.

Intelligence + great personality (which includes kindness, compassion, and humor) + confidence (not to be confused with arrogance) = hawtness!
"Looks" aren't that important if you have those 3 things going for you.

Basically it was all about field service and obeying the FDS.
It went down like this.
Shortly after his release from Patmos, John went around visiting all the congregations. At one, he meets a character named Scolios. Scolios is a well to do member of the congregation and some of the congregation work for him. Scolios says Christians should be doing more charitable works rather than more in the ministry work (suggesting that the preaching work is completed).
Naturally John disagrees with him and basically calls him an apostate.
Scolios sends his daughter to another city to work for a Roman businessman. He is very excited because it is a very good job for his daughter and she'll be making lots of money.
Meanwhile, as John is villifying Scolios and yammering on and on about sacrificing comfort and employment in order to go out in the ministry full time, word comes that Scolios' daughter is very traumatized and on her way back home.
When she arrives, she tells everyone that her Roman employer took her to the gladiator fights where she witnessed a boy-friend get mauled to death by lions.
Everyone is humbled and goes on and on about how wrong it is to seek material wealth or to do charitable works and that they should have listened to dear dear John in the first place.
Freakin' barf. Notice that this little "biblical" drama is not to be found anywhere in the bible.

usually, if there are children involved, life after becomes unbearable after a grand boasting session.

That happened to me when I was growing up.
ASSemblies and visits by the COs and DOs.
I'd brace myself for a month or so of strict parenting until they tired of finding fault with me.
It always sucked because the DA was always during summer break. Since both of my parents worked outside the home, I had to stay at home alone all day and do chores. Basically I had to clean the house from top to bottom every single day. Dust, vacuum, mop, laundry, and the evening dinner.
Each day, the neighborhood kids would stop by and the adult supervision of the group would, once again, invite me to go swimming with everyone. I had to say 'no, thank you.'
Fun times.
alright, so i'm reading on this site, and i'm not 100% sure what it's about.
it appears to be a bunch of former jw people bashing everything they can get their hands on in relation to jw's.. .
i was brought up as a jw, but when i got older and started to think for myself, i began to realize that i didn't agree with their teachings.
Hence the atheist question, since I do have trouble with them, although I try to play nice and avoid starting crap haha.

I'm an atheist but I don't go around and purposely try to dissuade the theists' beliefs. If someone says to me, 'I believe in god' I don't start quoting scientists and philosophers to change their beliefs.
However......
I tell a theist that, 'I don't believe in god,' they usually start in on me with scripture. Scripture after scripture after scripture. Then, when I tell them, 'Sorry, but I've read the bible cover to cover and I still don't believe in god,' they tell me they'll pray for me because I need to find Jesus and the last thing I want to do is die without Jesus.
